My husband took me to Nobles for my birthday dinner and having wanted to try it since we moved to Battle 2 years ago I was not dissapointed. We were given a time slot for our table, '7.45 but arrive any time between 7.30 and 8.00', which was a nice touch when you've got to get children and babysitters organised, takes some of the pressure off! We were met with a warm welcome and the restaurant was clean and bright. We had bread and olives as a little pre-starter then a delicious salad of pigeon breast with foie gras, with tiny beetroot rosti which were to die for. We then had roasted venison which was also absolutely lovely, beautifully cooked and the tiny pieces of veg were sweet and soft, and the potato rosti complimented the dish really well. To finish my husband had apple sponge served with apple sortbet which he enyoyed but wasn't too sure about the different textures, I had poached pear and cinnamon ice cream. I thought it was a fabulous combination, nothing new I know, but delicious none the less. The staff were good, quiet and efficient, the only thing missing perhaps was showing a little interest in their customers, a bit of chat, a 'How are you?' or 'the ....... is good' would have made the service perfect. I don't want to nit pick because I loved my birthday meal and can't wait to go again
Another trip to Battle meant another looked-forward-to meal at Nobles Restaurant.
This refreshingly bright and uncluttered restaurant serves British food which is beautifully cooked and presented and always exceeds expectation. Locally sourced ingredients are used and even the bread and after-dinner chocolates are home-made.
The atmosphere at Nobles is relaxed and comfortable, and its clean and tidy.
Front of house staff are friendly but professional and are alert to customers' needs.
Another thoroughly enjoyable visit to Nobles.
Great starters, could improve the main course selections. Mini deserts genius idea. All food is locally sourced and made with care and attention to detail.
My wife and I visited Battle in late November 2010 and had luch once in 'Nobles'. We selected from the '2 courses for £10.66' menu and both our meals were excellent with the portions being ample. The service was very good although I should state that , because of the time of year, the restaurant was not busy. The decor was very nice and the rooms were nice and light. I dislike restaurants being dark and pooly lit.
Good food in nice surroundings at a sensible price, enjoyable.
your lunch deal at £10.66 was certainly value for money and very good quality of food.
Nobles in Battle is a step above most of the generally very good eateries in the area. There is clearly a real chef who works subtly with good ingredients. The ambience is clean and bright. Music was frankly unnecessary and rather increased a sense of blandness belied by the food. Attentive and pleasant service.
lovely food, great service.
We have eaten at Nobles both as part of a (large) group and as a couple. On each occasion the service and food have been excellent. As with many good restaurants, the menu is fairly restricted in terms of number of items but everything on the menu is impeccably cooked and served attractively and quickly.
Excellent food and charming service.
Nobles is a local Star - they never let us down. Long may they continue.
We booked at Nobles on Friday 1st October and had an extremely pleasant dining experience! The service was attentive, helpful and friendly and the food some of the best we've had in a long time. We have eaten at supposedly 'great' restaurants with a high price to match and been disappointed on many occasions with meals not living up to expectations or descriptions. However the food at Nobles was worth the money and overall a taste sensation! The decor was a little stark we thought, lovely, light and bright for a summer brunch but not for a cold and wet Autumn night. The food and service is what makes this restaurant tick and we will return to sample more of the owner/chefs delights again.
Excellent Service and very friendly. All enjoyed the food.
Nicely decorated and spaced restaurant that we went to in September after reading the reviews here. One waitress managed very well all evening, but there was a 40 minutes wait from our order to the starters arriving. Very good food in general, and well kept wine. The chef did apologise for the wait when he appeared at the end of the evening. The bread was to die for!
A great evening. Good food, good wine and a wonderful atmosphere for a special occasion. Service was excellent. Excellent value for money.
We entered to a clean, quiet atmosphere and were immediately greated and taken through to our table. We were a party of 7 mixed Russian, Armenian and English and the waitresses dealt quickly and efficiently with our ordering. The food was excellent, quite beautifully cooked and presented. Everyone at the table remarked very favourably on everything. Nobles gave us a beautiful venue with wonderful food, and we WILL be back.
Nice restaurant with good food and wine list-more fish than meat choice unless you are into steaks!
We booked Nobles for a wedding anniversary lunch for six people. We were sat at a circular table next to the patio and had the fixed price menu at £13.40 for a 3-course lunch. There was a choice of 5 starters, 5 main courses and 5 desserts and, between us, we tried most of them! They were all freshly prepared, well presented, sensible portions and full of flavour. My daughter declared that it was the best pizza she'd ever had (saying something for someone well past their teens) and my Irish stew contained very tender local lamb. The total bill including two bottles of sparkling wine, coffee and chocolates and service was £155 - amazing value for 6 people for high quality cooking in an attractive setting with great service.
I would definitely recommend Nobles in Battle. You get great quality food at very affordable prices. It's very clean and reasonably quiet. The food takes quite a time to arrive; however it's delicious and very nicely served!
Food was very good the only observation was that the service was on the slow side.
Loved everything about this restaurant - only one drawback not enough fish on the menu."!
We chose to introduce two real foodies to Nobles in Battle on this occasion as we were so impressed on our last visit less than a month ago. Drinks on the terraced area where a slight breeze kept us cool on a barmy sunny evening was then followed by another excellent meal - the crab risotto was a deservedly popular choice, the fish dish was described by our friends as the best, the chicken I chose was sumptuous and my husband's sirloin steak he described as tender and tasty, wine excellent too!!
Pleasant staff. Tasty, light food.
Lovely environment, great food and service. The lunch time set menu was fantastic value for money, 4 of us ate, all different things and without exception they were very tasty and beautifully presented. I would highly recommend it!
Nobles in Battle - what a find - friendly yet unobtrusive service, the duck terrine was gorgeous and the fish medley light and summery - ideal for the weather conditions. My husband chose the rissotto and then a fillet steak and was equally impressed. The wine list was excellent and varied but we went for our usual choice of New Zealand Sauvignon and were not disappointed. We will be visiting again before long and introducing two gastro friends.
My wife and I ate at Nobles in Battle last night and were very pleasantly surprised. We had planned on using the TT Offer but opted for the A La Carte as this still seemed very reasionable value. The food was not too fussy but well presented and perfectly cooked. We had Crab Risotto followed by Saddle of Lamb and Beef Strogonoff with a desert of Lime Panacotta all washed down with a very fine St. Emillion. Like the food the proprieters were also unpretentious, friendly & helpful.
Excellent! Asparagus and quails eggs starter particularly delicious. Food local and seasonal as much as possible.
we dinned at nobles , battle in east sussex. had a excellant steak, the service was very good as was the sampler pudding was just perfect.staff very friendly and helpful, was given a jug of iced cold water without asking . would go again if passing.
Top class cooking, best place to eat in Battle
As we were staying near Battle we decided to give Nobles a try as it's a TT restaurant. The location is very good and service was very friendly and about right for a Sat night. The chef very kindly came out to advise our pregnant diner which dishes would be suitable to eat. The food is very rich: a main course of mushroom & leek tart was presented on mash in the middle of a creamy broth - a bit too much for my taste. Sirloin steak and chips was very generous and the risotto was perfect.
Chose the two course £10.66 lunch menu. Three varied and good options for each of the starter and main courses. The locally resourced pork was beautifully tender and served in a creamy mustard sauce. We shared a warm nut brownie for a dessert and this too was delicious, melt in your mouth food. Service was warm and friendly and nothing too much trouble.
Very tasty food at Noble's - also enjoyed the option of lunch "al fresco" around the back of the restaurant. Amazing value!!
We received excellent service from the moment we walked in . The food was to its usual top quality standard and is excellent value for money
A fantastic meal and great service
Faultless! Perfect food, wine and service.
It was a quiet night in the restaurant when we visited,so atmosphere was not 'buzzy'. We mentioned that it was a birthday celebration dinner and Nobles had sprinkled party confetti on the table - a nice touch
The Mother’s Day lunch yesterday was a really excellent experience. The food was really excellent, the service friendly and helpful and the restaurant always looks good. Amazing value too. Thanks and see you soon,
Recently had dinner at Nobles and it was so good I went back the next day for lunch! Food was delicious, beautifully cooked and well presented. I loved the atmosphere at Nobles – it felt very comfortable. Staff were professional, polite and friendly without being intrusive. Décor was easy on the eye and layout uncluttered and spacious. A really good experience.
Nobles in Battle offered excellent quality food and drink. My only complaint is common to all Nouvelle offerings - that vegetables are regarded as ornaments rather than a substantial part of the meal. Service good too.
"Very welcoming, with friendly relaxed service without the pretension of say an establishment in Westfield. Good quality wines with the length of the list about right. We've dined about once a quarter but find the menu doesn't change as much as we'd like but it's certainly our first choice of restaurants in the area. We very keen to see Nobles continue and wish we could frequent it more."
"This is a great restaurant, with a friendly atmosphere, and superb food."
"The food and the accompanying sauces can only be described as stunning. The Sticky Toffee is also certainly not to be missed. Nobles has become one of the top restaurants in the area, and deservedly so. Can't wait to go back."
We have been to Nobles three times now, and the most recent was our first time for lunch. Although the lunch menu isn't quite as impressive as the main menu, it is great value for 2 courses, and you can always order from the main menu anyway. In short, the food is fantastic, with very original dishes that are beautifully presented. The restaurant has a very clean, fresh feel to it. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and seem like the couldn't do any more for us. I have recommended Nobles to friends and family, and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for great food at a reasonable price."
"Food was great and service was friendly - if a tiny bit slow bringing the main course. It was a relaxed Saturday evening so not a problem."
"Nobles is a wonderful restaurant. It is reasonably priced, but serves exquisite food. The service is impeccable, while the ambiance and tone is refined, but not pretentious. We had a wonderful evening and would recommend Nobles to everybody"
"Nobles never ceases to be exactly what we want for a meal out not only as a couple but as a group or party. The Owners share their passion for their restaurant with the excellent food and wine provided. Nothing is too much trouble and we will continue to visit Nobles.
In the bad weather recently they rang to see if we were O.K and if we would still be able to visit the restaurant."
